A double cardan joint driveshaft has two joints rather than the traditional single joint. This allows it to operate smoothly over a wider range of angles, making it ideal for the front driveshafts of a car (where the wheels need to steer.)
Double-cardan joints are mostly used in on-road racing, particularly in touring cars.
