Which Transmitter Works With Your Mini-Z? Receiver Units & Compatibility

“Will my transmitter work with this Mini-Z?” is one of the most confusing questions in the whole line — because the answer depends entirely on which kind of Mini-Z you bought. There are two completely different worlds here, and mixing them up is the single biggest source of “why won’t this drive” frustration.

The two worlds: readyset vs. chassis kit

A readyset (the boxed, ready-to-run car with a body already on it) comes complete: chassis, body, and a matched transmitter with the RC unit — receiver included — already built in. Kyosho pairs readysets with its own KT-531P or Syncro KT-531P 2.4GHz transmitter, and the receiver is part of the pre-installed RC unit. Nothing extra to buy; open the box and drive.

A bare EVO / EVO2 chassis kit (MR-04EVO2, MA-030EVO2, and similar) is different on purpose. It ships as a semi-complete chassis with the main EVO unit built in, but Kyosho’s own “needed to run” list for these kits spells it out: no receiver is included. You still need a receiver unit and a compatible transmitter before it will move — that’s the tradeoff for being able to run whichever transmitter brand you already own.

The receiver-unit system

This is the actual value of the EVO2 platform: instead of locking you into one radio brand, the receiver plugs in as its own module that attaches and detaches from the top of the chassis (this applies to the MA-030EVO2 AWD chassis too, not just RWD). Buy the receiver unit that matches the transmitter you already own, and any EVO/EVO2 chassis will run it.

Brand-by-brand transmitter compatibility

Kyosho publishes an official compatible-transmitter list for the MA-030EVO2 (and by extension the EVO2 receiver-unit system generally). If your transmitter is on this list, the matching receiver unit above will let it drive an EVO/EVO2 Mini-Z:

Kyosho’s own marketing for the MR-04EVO2 confirms the same story from the high end: it can be driven with KO Propo, Futaba, and Flysky Noble NB4 high-end transmitters, in addition to the standard KT-531P/FHSS setup.

Two special cases worth knowing about

Futaba T4PM Plus, Kyosho version (82051): this version ships with an FS-RM005 module built in — a slot the older 4PM didn’t have. That module is the key: it lets Futaba owners carry their existing Futaba receivers across to readyset Mini-Z models too, not just EVO2 chassis kits.

Flysky Noble NB4+ and NB4 PRO+ receiver bundles: if you’re buying into Flysky fresh, Kyosho sells the transmitter bundled with a Mini-Z EVO receiver and RM005 module, so you don’t have to buy the receiver separately: the Noble NB4+ bundle is part no. 82152M, and the Noble NB4 PRO+ bundle is part no. 82153M. (The Noble NB4+ transmitter alone, no receiver, is 82152X.)

What should you actually buy?

  • You don’t own a transmitter yet: get a readyset. It already comes with a matched transmitter (KT-531P or Syncro KT-531P) and the receiver built into the RC unit — no separate receiver purchase needed.
  • You already own a Futaba, KO Propo, or Flysky transmitter from the compatibility table above: buy the EVO2 receiver unit for your brand (82046 or 82044 for Futaba, 82045 for KO, 82151-03 for Flysky) and drop it into your EVO/EVO2 chassis kit. Your existing transmitter drives it.
  • You’re racing an MR-04EVO2 and want to run a high-end transmitter: any of KO Propo, Futaba, or Flysky Noble NB4’s high-end models will work through their matching receiver unit — or stick with the standard KT-531P/FHSS receiver (82041) if you’d rather not switch radios.

Practical notes

I.C.S. connector: EVO2 chassis (both MR-04EVO2 and MA-030EVO2) have a dedicated I.C.S. connector, separate from the receiver connection. That’s what you use with Kyosho’s I.C.S. Setting Manager software to tune motor and steering settings — it has nothing to do with which receiver unit or transmitter brand you’ve chosen.

Gyro connector: EVO2 chassis also have their own gyro-unit mounting position and gyro connector, distinct from the receiver unit’s mounting position. Adding or upgrading a gyro (like the V2 gyro unit) doesn’t change which receiver you need, and vice versa — the two systems plug in independently.
